How to Draw a Hobbit

The Hobbits are a fictional race from the fantasy novels The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings written by J.R.R. Tolkien. With the 2012 release of the movie The Hobbit based on the book, it's a good time to practice drawing your own cartoon version of the hobbit who started it all, Bilbo Baggins.

Steps

1. Sketch the head. Draw a circle with a rounded triangle on each side to serve as ears. Draw a cross inside the circle to serve as guidelines for the facial features.
2. On top of the circle, draw a large semicircle. This will be the hobbit's hair.
3. Draw a rounded triangle below the face. This will form the body.
4. On each side of the body, draw an arch. These arches should originate from the head; they will soon become arms.
5. Draw two half ovals under the body. These will become the pants.
6. Draw two small rectangles, each connected to a large oval. These will be the ankles and feet.
7. Outline the image. Draw in details such as facial features, hair, and clothes.
8. Erase the sketch lines.
9. Color the drawing in. All done!
